Two Thirds Beer Co. has taken over the premises formerly occupied by vegan bakehouse Steel City Cakes on Abbeydale Road, and is focused on serving high-quality ales from around the world.

But the venue has a novel difference – it specialises in serving beers and ciders in quantities of two-thirds-of-a-pint, enabling customers to try a wider range of beverages, as well as encouraging responsible drinking.

The concept emerged during a trip the owners took to Seville in Spain last year, where the ‘caña’ – a small glass of beer – is the standard option when ordering a drink.

Two Thirds has been founded by three lovers of quality ale from Sheffield – Ben Stubbs, Danny Clare and Adam Inns. Ben and Danny are members of the city band Saint Petersburg.

Ben said: “The bar boasts a range of over 16 rotating keg and cask offerings from local breweries and beyond, a serve-yourself craft beer fridge featuring beers and ciders from Europe, USA, South America and Asia and as well as an eclectic spirits range.”

The place has launched on a stretch of Abbeydale Road that is already home to the likes of The Broadfield, Picture House Social, Barrowboy and Dead Donkey, but Ben said there is room for more.

Ben added: “Placing a focus on high quality service, Two Thirds Beer Co. hope to be the answer to a market that, while rapidly growing, is still in its developmental stages in this part of Sheffield, and as passionate craft beer enthusiasts, we are excited to share our love and expertise, allowing customers the opportunity to discover a wide array of wonderful new drinks from across the continent and beyond.”

The unit where Steel City Cakes was based had been empty since last December.

Two Thirds Beer Co. is open from Tuesday to Thursday, 5pm to 11pm, on Fridays from 4.30pm to 11pm, Saturdays midday to 11pm and Sundays noon to 10pm. Dogs are welcome.

See www.twothirdsbeer.co for details and to sign up for a third off a first drink. Customers can still order a pint measure at the bar if they wish to.
