The first ever Green party Parliamentary candidate to stand in Barnsley has been announced.
Michael Short will stand in the Barnsley Central constituency in May.
The trade union convenor, who lived in Barnsley for 23 years, was educated there and still works in the town, is the first general election candidate to come out of the town’s Green party group, which was set up in mid-2014.
He said: “I decided to stand as a Parliamentary candidate because I grew tired of seeing the poorest and most vulnerable approach me with worries about their employment and finances and with little they could do about it.”
Mr Short added: “I strongly believe the Green party is the best party to represent Barnsley and its proud history of struggle for social justice.”
