Fireworks hurled into children's home

YOUNGSTERS were evacuated from a children's home after yobs bombarded them with fireworks.

Thugs blasted two rockets and two other fireworks into the home on Studmore Road, Kimberworth Park, at 8.15pm, causing panic among staff and residents.

Firefighters said the rockets were "bouncing around" the lobby before burning themselves out. Four children and two carers got out unscathed.

Two crews from Rotherham fire station rushed to the council-owned building and helped clear the fumes before the youngsters, mainly teenagers, were allowed back inside.

No-one was in the main entrance area, when the fireworks were thrown No-one was hurt, but the incident was today condemned by emergency crews.

It came hours after police started their annual Operation Mischief campaign to stem yob behaviour in the lead-up to Bonfire Night.

There was no lasting damage to the children's home .

Firefighters from Rotherham station were called to deal with an oil tank that caught fire early today.

The incident at Owen Springs on Aldwarke Terrace, Aldwarke, was quickly brought under control at 2.10am.
