Firefighters tackle huge blaze at waste recycling plant in Rotherham

Residents in part of Rotherham are being urged to keep their doors and windows closed this morning following a huge blaze.

Waste at a recycling plant in Derwent Way, near Brampton, has gone up in flames.

The blaze was discovered at 1.15am this morning.

Firefighters from Dearne, Cudworth, Barnsley and Rotherham stations are at the scene.

A South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “There is a large smoke plume in the area and people are being advised keep their doors and windows closed.

“The cause of the fire is not yet known and a fire investigation will take place once the fire it completely out.”
