Firefighters are tackling a blaze at a bingo hall in Rotherham.

The fire broke out at the derelict building in Muglet Lane, Matlby some time before 1.20pm today.

South Yorkshire Fire Service said there are six engines currently in attendance at the scene and the roof is likely to collapse. There are no reports of any injuries and the bingo hall is not near to any residential properties.

The building, which contains a large amount of wood, was well alight when crews arrived.

An Aerial Ladder Platform is being used to fight the fire from above.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Fire Service said: “Muglet Lane is currently closed and is expected to remain so until the fire is out.

“An investigation into the cause of the fire will take place once the incident is over.”
