Firefighters rescue man 'stuck on an island' after falling from bridge into River Don

A man who found himself marooned on an island in the River Don after falling from a bridge in Sheffield was pulled to safety by firefighters.

Emergency services were call to Rutland Road in Hillsboroughat 11.12am this morning (June 11).

South Yorkshire Police said a man in his 30s was ‘stuck on an island’ in the River Don after falling from the bridge above.

The man was brought to safety by crews from Central and Rivelin and taken to hospital for routine checks.
