Firefighters remain at the scene of a burning nightclub in Sheffield city centre this afternoon – more than 12 hours after a blaze broke out.

Crews were called to Burgess Street at 1.20am and found the former Area nightclub engulfed in smoke.

They spent the night and this morning searching the smoke-logged club to find the ‘seat of the fire,' which has now been established.

Crews are expected to remain there for most of the day.

The fire is not visible from the street.
