Firefighters have been praised for saving brand new farm buildings after two barns went up in flames.
Crews were called to Holywell Farm, Swinton, in the early hours of yesterday and found two barns well alight.
They said the barns were beyond saving but both had adjoining stable blocks.
Station manager Steve Adams said crews battled all day to save all surrounding buildings and prevented any further damage.
They are still at the scene today damping down to prevent any re-ignition.
An investigation into the cause of the blaze is underway.
Station manager Adams said: “The farm is brand new - millions must have been spent on it, so it was heartbreaking to see.
“Two barns were well alight when crews arrived they were virtually lost at that point - so efforts were successfully concentrated on saving adjoining buildings.”
