Firefighters at city steel plant

WORKERS were evacuated from the Forgemasters steel plant in Brightside, Sheffield, after a hydraulic press developed a fault and caught fire.

The incident was reported to firefighters who used foam to extinguish the flames at 8pm on Tuesday.

Firefighters were called to another industrial premises - the Next distribution centre on Manvers Way, Rotherham - after a battery caught fire on a forklift truck.

The incident was reported at 9pm on Wednesday and crews needed to spend only a few minutes at the scene.

Valley Road in Meersbrook, Sheffield, was closed on Wednesday night after a fire broke out in the cellar of a house.

Three fire engines were called to the scene and an investigation into the cause recorded the fire as accidental.
