Firefighter is injured as she helps rescue horse from fire

A firefighter was injured helping rescue four horses from a fire in Shafton, Barnsley, on Saturday night.

Firefighters from Central Barnsley and Dearne fire station were called out to the incident when a barn fire at Doug Hill was reported at around 9pm. The fire was near to stables and four horses had to be rescued.

All the horses were unharmed , though one did kick a female officer, who had to be taken to hospital with a leg injury.

A total of 13 firefighters attended, and they were on the scene until 1am. Officers say they are not sure if it was accidental or deliberate, and investigations on-going.
