Fire killed beloved son

A CHESTERFIELD man has died in a hotel fire in Blackpool, police have revealed.

Stephen Smith, aged 38, an electrical engineer from Old Whittington, died when the Manor Hotel caught fire in the early hours of Monday.

Police publicly confirmed his identity yesterday.

Today his family paid tribute to him in a statement.

“Stephen, a bachelor, was a fantastic son, brother and uncle in every way.

“The family would like to place on record their sincere thanks to the fire, police and ambulance services of Blackpool who made every effort possible to save the life of Stephen.

“In addition, they would like to thank the residents and visitors of Blackpool who have placed flowers and messages at the scene of the tragedy.

“This very kind gesture has touched the family greatly at this very sad time.”

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service are investigating the cause of the blaze.
