Firefighters tackled a blaze at a University of Sheffield building in the city this morning.

Several crews attended the fire in a disused plant room in the basement of The Alfred Denny Building on Western Bank at 5.45am.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus were sent into the building and the flames were put out.

Four engines and police remained at the cordoned off scene at around 9am this morning.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

A university spokesman said damage was thought to be ‘fairly limited’.
