Goals early in the second half from loanees Ryan Manning and Richie Towell put the Millers in a strong position but Stoke's class told as Tom Ince and Bojan ensured a share of the spoils.

Michael Smith caused early problems for the Stoke defence but his first clear-cut chance was hit straight at England international Jack Butland.

Stoke threatened through Benik Afobe but Marek Rodak pushed the ball away and Semi Ajayi made an important clearance.

Joe Allen was the next to test Rodak with a volley from the edge of the box.

The quick thinking of Manning almost led to Rotherham netting the opener. Manning intercepted Butland's throw but his shot curled into the side netting with Butland way off his line.

Afobe was unfortunate not to send Stoke in ahead at the break with his looping header from Erik Pieters's cross bouncing off the underside of the bar.

They were made to pay for that missed chance as Rotherham stormed ahead with two goals in three minutes.

Ryan Williams won them a penalty within a minute of the restart after he got by Ashley Williams and was bundled to the floor.

Manning made no mistake for the second home game in a row.

Stoke were left reeling even further on 50 minutes when Towell doubled the advantage by prodding in from Williams' corner after Richard Wood had rose highest.

The visitors hit back on 59 minutes with Ince striking home coolly from Pieters's centre.

Allen then rattled the bar but should have scored following Cuco Martina's volleyed cross.

Rotherham threatened at the other end with Smith's powerful header flying just wide.

Wood picked up an injury and had to be replaced by usual right-back Zak Vyner who helped The Millers defend resiliently.

Stoke looked to the big guns off the bench and introduced both Charlie Adam and Peter Crouch for the final eight minutes but it was another sub who struck the leveller in the 85th minute.
