Film showcasing Sheffield viewed 100,000 times

A film showcasing Sheffield has been viewed almost 100,000 times so far - in six weeks.

The film ‘Our Sheffield’ was commissioned by Sheffield City Council to highlight the city’s best bits to attract more visitors and investment.

The two-and-a-half-minute film, which features everything from bee-keeping to bowling, roller derby to rock climbing, has reached more than 60,000 people on Twitter and more than 10,000 on Facebook, as well as being viewed on Youtube and on local news outlet websites, including The Star’s.

It has also been screened at a number of major city events including Off The Shelf, the European Outdoor Summit and the Sheffield International Economic Commission on The Outdoor City.

Members of the public responded in their droves to an appeal for ideas on what should feature in the final cut.

It won a national award last week for Best Use of Video by a communications teams.

Councillor Julie Dore, leader of Sheffield City Council, said: “Our Sheffield captures some of the very finest things about our city, from the spectacular landscape which is perfect for outdoor pursuits, right through to major events such as Tramlines, our vibrant nightlife, and our friendly, close communities.

“I am so glad that so many people have watched the film and that it has also been met with a standing ovation at a wide range of events.

“I would encourage anyone who hasn’t already seen it to take a look, let us know what you think, and get involved by telling us what makes your Sheffield.”

The council is now asking members of the public to send in their own short films what makes ‘their Sheffield’.

They will be shared by the council via social media.
