Festive fun as pupils visit Santa's grotto in Barnsley

Year 4 pupils from Joseph Locke Primary School in Barnsley attended the college’s Construction Centre at the Honeywell campus where they visited the grotto, designed, built and decorated by construction students as part of their training programme.

After meeting Father Christmas, the pupils continued in the festive spirit by taking part in a number of Christmas-themed activities organised by the college’s construction staff and students.

Pupils painted their own Christmas plaster moulds whilst providing a rendition of ‘Let it Go’ from Disney’s Frozen and ‘Jingle Bells’ which they sang in French.

They also took part in a game of ‘snowball shootout’, a penalty shootout style of game where they threw ‘snowballs’ at Rudolph and Father Christmas.

Gavin Lee, construction programme manager at Barnsley College, said: “We are always looking at ways in which we can strengthen our links with the local community.

“The visit was a great way for the pupils to get a taste of construction trades, have some fun and get into the Christmas spirit.”

Katy Whelpdale, Year 4 class teacher at Joseph Locke Primary School, added: “They have had a fantastic time seeing Santa and getting involved with all the fun activities.

“It was also great for them to see the brilliant facilities at the Construction Centre and it’s something for pupils to think about for their future.

“The Barnsley College staff were brilliant with the pupils and they made us feel very welcome.

“We would like to thank them for inviting us.”
