More than 1,000 people joined St Luke's Hospice as the charity created some special Christmas magic with its annual Festival of Light.

One of the most popular dates in the St Luke’s calendar, the Festival of Light, sponsored by giftware wholesaler Puckator, saw the hospice gardens in Little Common Lane, Whirlow, transformed by thousands of bright lights all dedicated to the memory of loved ones.

And the lights will now shine out all the way through the Christmas period.

The event was hosted by BBC Radio Sheffield presenter and keen St Luke’s supporter Paulette Edwards, who was joined on stage for the official switch on by patient Constance Dabell.

There was music from the Sheffield Harmony Choir and Oughtibridge Brass Band, along with complementary glasses of mulled wine and mince pies and a hog roast provided by Hope Valley company Heatherhill Farm Meats.

The Christmas theme continues on Sunday when Sheffield Cathedral hosts the hospice’s traditional seasonal Sunday service of remembrance starting at 2pm.
