Ferguson holds Rovers injury inquest

Nathan Tyson is suffering with a hamstring injury which could be due to his jaw

But he did learn of a link between the jaw and the hamstring and uncovered a player keeping a niggle quiet.

Nathan Tyson, Andy Butler, Harry Middleton and Cameron Stewart are all set to be out until the trip to Scunthorpe United next Saturday after all suffering injuries on the day of the clash with Gillingham earlier this month.

And goalkeeper Thorsten Stuckmann is a doubt after falling awkwardly on his shoulder during the defeat to Port Vale on Tuesday.

“It’s just the way it goes,” Ferguson said. “You need a bit of luck with injuries.

“It’s just bizarre that we got four in one game including three muscle injuries which is not ideal.”

The manner of the respective hamstring problems suffered during the warm-up by Middleton and Tyson was what concerned Ferguson the most.

Those injuries occurred on the day when power cuts affected the Keepmoat, seeing the kick-off time switched twice.

And Ferguson believes the mental adjustment could have led to the injuries.

But he did offer a more scientific reason for Tyson’s issue.

He said: “Nathan took a really bad knock to his jaw. People may not know the alignment of the jaw really affects the thigh.

“The medical staff told me that.

“We were looking for answers but sometimes there isn’t anything.

“There was nothing different on the day. The warm-up was normal. It was just unusual for it to happen.”

Ferguson did call on his players to show maturity when it comes to niggles after discovering Middleton kept his problem quiet.

He said: “Harry had felt a bit of tightness without anyone really knowing about it because he’d kept it to himself.

“That is something we need to look at maybe a bit more and be a bit more professional with things like that.”
