The increasing role played by women in science, engineering and technology at Sheffield Hallam University has been acknowledged with a major national award.

Two academic departments from the university have been awarded Athena SWAN awards, which recognise excellence and commitment to the career progression of women in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine.

Academics from the University’s Biomedical Research Centre and Department of Biosciences were awarded a silver department award, and the Psychology Group were given a bronze department award.

The awards recognise work in higher eduction to tacking gender inequality.
