The black pup, called Sizzling Girl, bolted from her handler while being loaded into the traps before the first race on Friday.

Staff at Owlerton said she managed to escape the stadium via a hole in the fence, which had been caused by vandals the same day.

Racing was held up for over an hour while stadium staff searched for the pup.

John Gilburn, managing director at Owlerton Stadium, said: “I have never known a dog to escape and we are very concerned for her,

“She has been spotted everyday since she went, but as she is so scared, it has been very difficult to catch her.

“Luckily, she has managed to pull her muzzle off, so will have been able to feed.”

John said staff would be setting up traps with food to entice the pup and hopefully bring her to safety.

He said: “We did everything we could on the night and have continued to do everything we can ever since.

“We care about our greyhounds so much and want her safe again.

“I urge members of the public to keep a look out for her.”

John said Sizzling Girl had been spotted around Herries Road.
