The cause of the fire that killed four people in Chesterfield is not believed to be suspicious, police said tonight.

Police investigating the house fire on Williamthorpe Road, North Wingfield, said tonight they ‘do not believe it to be suspicious at this stage’.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 5am yesterday.

Claire James, aged 27, Josie Leighton, 32, and Josie’s two sons Tyler Green, nine, and Jordan Green, 12, all died.

Post mortem examinations carried out today have revealed all four died from smoke inhalation.

Investigations into the exact cause of the fire are continuing.

Josie’s mum Lynn Leighton - the boys’ grandmother - paid tribute to her family today.

“Josie was a lovely, loving daughter who had lots of friends,” she said.

“Tyler was always happy. He loved life, he loved school and was always full of beans.

“Jordan was a real character. He loved his family, especially his grandma and always had lots of friends.

“They will all be greatly missed.

“We are devastated by what has happened.”
