Barnsley Archives are heading off on tour - to Darfield library.

After carefully sorting, preserving and cataloguing historic records relating to the former Darfield Urban District Council, the team at Barnsley Archives and Discovery Centre are taking the fascinating documents to be showcased at the library on May 17 from 9.30am to 1pm.

These surviving records provide a unique insight into the area during a period of significant social change and are an important source of information for families and local historians. Founded in 1896 as a result of the Local Government Act of 1894, Darfield Council was responsible for providing services in the district such as housing, planning, health, sanitation, parks, allotments and cemeteries.
