Joye Powlett Smith - South Yorkshire’s first lady High Sheriff - has died aged 89.
Joye was the widow of Sheffield solicitor Sydney Powlett Smith.
She lived in South Yorkshire all her life until moving to be near family in Oxford in 2010. Joye volunteered for many charities, was appointed High Sheriff in 1989 and was awarded an OBE in 1996.
A memorial service is at St Martin’s Church, Firbeck, Rotherham, at 2.30pm on October 18.
