Fantastic achievement

To the owner, manager, staff, players and all supporters of Sheffield Wednesday.

What a fantastic achievement for Sheffield Wednesday to reach the Football League Championship play-off final at Wembley and to give all the supporters a magnificent day out.

The club, as a whole must feel positive about the future given what has been achieved in one season. One year ago we were celebrating one of our best recent seasons and the relative success, achieved on a small budget, by Stuart Gray and his staff.

In one season with a new owner, new manager and mostly a new team we have achieved something that Brighton, Derby, Ipswich, Cardiff etc. haven’t.

Hull, who only managed to win one game in three matches against us, have a team full of Premier League experience and have been at the top of the Championship or in the Premier League for a number of seasons and have been able to build a strong team.

Sheffield Wednesday must now consolidate and continue to build on some solid foundations.

The manager must be ruthless in building the squad and as much as we have enjoyed this season some of our favourites must become bit players next season. There can be no sentiment because the club and the team are much bigger than any individual.

As well as finishing in our highest league position for many years, geographically we are the most successful club in an area stretching from Leicester to Hull to Manchester and beyond.

Let’s be proud of what we have achieved and look forward to another winning season in the Championship.
