I hate going to Dirty L**ds and it’s even more loathsome when you have to pay £36 for the so called privilege, writes Steve Walmsley
So, it was a great relief that the game was on Sky and I, like many other Wednesdayites, could sit and watch it on TV.
The game itself wasn’t a great advert for the Championship - it looked like two mid-table teams putting in lots of effort but both lacking real quality.
We certainly looked no better or no worse than them and I thought we did okay with us edging the first half and them the second.
Once he got to the pace of the game, I thought Lewis Buxton was excellent and the midfield looked better with Giles Coke back in and Liam Palmer on the right.
I do worry about Kamil Zayette though - he looks to have a goal concession in him per game and that’s not good; it’s fine scoring but he is primarily employed to defend and for their goal he was caught in no man’s land.
All in all though it was a decent point, and Reda Johnson got some game time so he might get a start tomorrow against Millwall. I’m sure Mark Beevers will get a decent welcome; he always tried his best, even when he was often pitched into struggling teams when it wasn’t the best for his development.
It will also be a decent welcome I’m sure for Stephen Bywater if he gets a game; if he does let’s hope he doesn’t play a blinder!
Whatever they do, it’s a game we really need to win if last season’s first half is not to start to look like it’s repeating itself.
With no departures, there hasn’t been anyone in the arrivals hall at Hillsborough so we still need that something in midfield and up front. With the clock ticking towards the window closing, it may well be we’re in the loan market yet again to plug the gaps.
