Family's tribute to murdered mothers

The family of the two women whose bodies were found in Shirebrook have paid tribute to the loving mother and grandmother.

The bodies of Julie Hill, 51, and her mother Rose Hill, 75, were discovered at Julie’s home in Station Road on Friday, February 26.

One man has been charged with double murder.

The family of the two woman have now released a statement through police.

“They will forever be in our hearts. The families ask that their privacy be respected now and they are left to grieve in peace.”

Rose Hill lived in Sheffield and was visiting her daughter when the incident occured on Thursday, February 25.

Police and paramedics were called to the house at about 10.10pm on Friday, February 26, when the bodies were found inside. Mr Whelan was arrested the day after the discovery.

Ms Hill’s dog, thought to be a terrier, is missing from the house and police are appealing for anyone who knows its whereabouts to get in touch.

Local residents described their shock at the deaths at the weekend.

One resident said Ms Hill was a 'polite and friendly' woman who he would see walking her dog.

Jason Knight, 43, of Station Road, said: “This is a nicer area of the town, so it is certainly an unusual thing to happen. There has been nothing like this before.”
