A family from Worksop has signed up to a sponsored walk this autumn in memory of their much-loved relative who lost his battle with cancer last year.

Friends and family of Liam Buckley will take part in Weston Park Cancer Charity’s Light the Night walk on October 1 through Ecclesall Woods to raise funds for the Sheffield-based hospital where he received treatment for bowel cancer. They will be following in the footsteps of the 23-year-old aerospace engineering graduate, who attended the fundraising event himself in 2014 just an hour after receiving treatment.

Liam’s mum, Janet, said: “Attending Light the Night will be extremely difficult for us all this year without Liam, but I know he would love to have seen us there supporting the hospital which cared for him right until the end. When Liam passed away, he left a huge hole in all our hearts - he was such an inspiration and he faced his diagnosis with such bravery and positivity. There’s not a minute that goes by that we don’t think of him and Light the Night will be a lovely opportunity for us to come together as a family and celebrate his life.”

The 4.5km Light the Night event, now in its fifth year, attracts supporters from across the region. Visit www.lighthenight.org.uk to enter.
