Last night, Mr Trout’s grandson, Dave Keith, posted on Facebook that he had been found and thanked local residents for their efforts with the search.

He said: “I’m Geoff’s grandson and everywhere I went searching this evening, I kept bumping into people looking out for him.

“Down country lanes, in pitch black fields and in the cold weather.

“Just want to say a massive thank you to everyone.

“He has now been found and is with the paramedics. Without everyone’s help I don’t think he would have made it through the night. Can’t thank you all enough.”
