The family of 77-year-old Barry Jones, from Rotherham, are 'desperate to find him' and 'incredibly anxious about his whereabouts' after he disappeared seven days ago.

DCI Andy Hogg is leading the investigation. He said: “We have been able to trace Barry’s steps to a certain point, and we know after he boarded the X5 bus at Sheffield Interchange on Tuesday, February 28, he got off opposite the Princess Royal pub on Retford Road at the Woodhouse Mill stop, between Woodhouse Mill and Swallownest at around 1.20pm.

“Were you in this area at the time? Do you remember seeing Barry? He would have been wearing blue jeans, a thermal vest and a green coat with a leather collar, and is about 5ft 8ins tall and of a slim build with a shaved head.

“PCSOs have been conducting door to door enquiries along Retford Road and all the adjoining streets, handing out flyers and speaking to people in a bid to gain any further insight into where Barry may be.

“We have also had the assistance of Mountain Rescue who have been searching surrounding areas on the ground, and the National Police Air Service helicopter providing an aerial view of the vast amount of land that surrounds where he was last seen.

“We are deeply concerned for Barry’s welfare and his family are understandably very worried and distressed following his disappearance last week. I would urge anyone who has any information at all to please come forward as we urgently need to trace where he may be.”

Barry was reported missing on February 28 at around 3.50pm. He left his home in Aston that morning at around 10.20am, saying he was going for a walk.

It is not out of character for Barry to go for short walks, say police, but the length of time he was out was unusual.

Through various enquiries, officers were able to determine Barry got on the X5 bus in Aston, heading towards Sheffield, at around 11.05am.

He is then thought to have boarded the 120 bus to Fulwood at around 12.12pm, before getting back on the X5 bus at Sheffield interchange at 1.10pm, bound for Dinnington.
