Family focus on Sheffield community at village pub

A weekend of celebration is being planned at The Peacock in Stannington as the pub gets set to reopen next week with a new team at the helm.

Husband and wife team, David and Nicola Briggs, along with Nicola’s brother Jonathan Wright, will re-open the pub on Tuesday, May 22 and have plans for their own branded beer.

The family are all Sheffield born and bred and have worked in food and hospitality all their lives.

Nicola said customers could look forward to’ homely and tasty meals’ that were made using Sheffield-based ingredients.

She said:“Good food, drink and customer service is what we’re all about. We have a passion for fresh, local and homemade food.”

Food will continue to be a key feature of The Peacock and along with their main menu, the trio will also be introducing a children’s menu.

Nicola added: “We will also be reintroducing themed evenings and creating an events calendar for the full year.

“We want the pub to be the heart of the community that is loved by people of all ages.”

To celebrate the reopening, a weekend of family fun is planned for the upcoming bank holiday weekend, from Saturday, May 26 to Monday, May 28.

The event will include a barbecue and a visit from the famous Thwaites Shire Horse Team, who will help David, Nicola and Jonathan launch their new beer onSaturday, May 26.

Andrew Buchanan, Thwaites director of pubs and brewing, said: “Their background of warm hospitality and great food is a great fit for The Peacock and we’re looking forward to seeing their ideas come to life there.

“They’re going to be having their own branded beer – and so we felt it would be a lovely touch for our famous horses to come along to sample the brew with them.”

n Tastes are changing in Doncaster, as the town gets set to welcome two new food businesses.

Mother and daughter team Hannah Shekle and mum Carol, of company Dreambakes, are due to open a new foodie cafe, bakery and deli in Priory Walk next week.

Director Hannah said: “Doncaster is beginning to develop a really strong foodie culture.”

And a new artisan cheese shop, called Chuckling Cheese, is to open at the town’s Frenchgate centre
