A POPULAR schoolboy has been found by his mother hanged at his South Yorkshire home - leaving his family ‘dumbstruck’.

Truman Edley, aged 15, was discovered by mum Nicola, 33, in the hall of their home on Cherry Tree Crescent, Wickersley, Rotherham.

The teenager had gone out with friends in the morning, returned during the afternoon, and is believed to have taken his own life by hanging himself while alone in the house.

Frantic efforts were made to resuscitate Truman at the scene, but he was pronounced dead at Rotherham Hospital.

His grandfather Robert Edley, 63, said the family is struggling to understand.

“We’re shocked,” Robert said. “Whatever the issues, whatever the problems, he’d pretty much kept them to himself.”

Robert described Truman - a Year 11 pupil at Wickersley School and Sports College - as a ‘typical teenager’ who made friends easily.

But he said his grandson had seemed more withdrawn - a change relatives had put down to Truman dealing with his approaching adulthood.

Robert said Truman - a fan of computer games, music and social networking websites - was ‘like another child’ to him.

“He was always close and very loving,” Robert said. “We have 15 years of pleasure to look back on. That’s been a good 15 years for us all.”

Friends have set up a tribute page on Facebook, and a gathering has been held at a playing field on Flash Lane, Bramley, where around 100 youngsters released Chinese lanterns in Truman’s memory.

A special assembly was held at Wickersley School.

“It’s good to know he was liked, that he’d got a lot of people who were affected by what happened,” said Robert, managing director of engineering firm George Robson.

Truman, whose family also includes grandmother Lorraine, 60, uncle Gavin, 34, and little brother Reece, five, didn’t leave a suicide note.

Police are examining the contents of his mobile phone and laptop.

Emergency services were called at around 5.30pm on Saturday. A post-mortem examination took place yesterday.
