A trip to League One side Shrewsbury Town in the fourth round awaits Wednesday this afternoon.

And Sougou sees the game as very important, despite the Owls’ primary focus being success in the Championship this season.

“To play in the FA Cup is not lost time,” the Senegalese international said. “I think the FA Cup is very important.

“It is one objective because there is something to win at the end. It is a chance to win the cup.”

The 31-year-old – who is likely to start at Greenhous Meadow this afternoon – admits he knows little about today’s hosts Shrewsbury.

Micky Mellon’s side beat Championship outfit Cardiff City in the third round.

Sougou says one thing he has learned about English football during his short time with Wednesday is that every game is difficult.

But he is confident if Wednesday are at their best this afternoon, they will progress in the competition.

He said: “I don’t know much about Shrewsbury but when they put our Cardiff I thought ‘this team is interesting.’

“I understand one thing from my time in England, all the games are very difficult.

“The most important thing is to focus on our team.

“The opponent is not important. We have to concentrate on ourselves and what we can do.

“We will see how Shrewsbury play but if we do our job we will progress.

“But it will not be easy.”

Sougou is likely to be included among a raft of changes made by Carlos Carvalhal this afternoon.
