Extra firefighters have been drafted in to tackle a blaze involving 500 tonnes of plastic at a recycling centre in Rotherham.

The blaze at Universal Recycling on Wharf Road, Kilnhurst, broke out at around 10am.

There are now seven fire engines at the scene plus a high pressure pump drenching the flames.

Residents have been advised to keep their doors and windows closed because of the plumes of thick, black smoke billowing from the recycling centre.

The 217 and 218 service buses operating in Kilnhurst have been diverted and will now use along Warren Vale, Wentworth Road and Highthorn Road.
