HUNDREDS of pounds have been raised for mountain rescue workers after adventurous South Yorkshire men gave a talk about their expeditions to the base camp of Mount Everest.

David Peckett and John Driskell, who met at teacher training college in Sheffield in the 1960s, travelled overland from Barnsley to the Himalayas after graduating.

The recreated the trip in 2010.

John and David gave a talk about their experiences at the Holiday Inn, Barnsley, as after-dinner speakers for an event organised by Rockley Rotary Club.

Some £200 was raised by the event for the Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team. John, now aged 70, and David, 68, also signed and sold copies of their book – Everest The Old Way.
