Expensive luxury that we can do without

Mick Gethin quite rightly identifies the Liberal Democrat hypocrisy on finance. ‘

Ecclesfield Parish Council raised its precept above inflation but what will the extra money be spent on?

The parish council is a body with no statutory responsibilities and no other function than to manage its own business and check local planning requests, which is already done by Sheffield City Council.

What I do note from details published by the parish council is that last year from a precept of £145, 310 it spent £83,710 on running costs including salaries/premises/stationery to give £57,000 in grants to community groups.

Am I the only person who thinks that hese figures are out of balance and see the parish council as an expensive luxury we can do without in these times of austerity?
