'Exceptional' Sheffield city centre PCSO thanked as Welsh robber is jailed for 12 years

PCSO Stephen Hart was on his daily rough sleeper patrol in December 2017 when he spied Zak Craig Corbett, a man wanted in connection with a Post Office robbery in Anglesey, committed the month before.

PCSO Hart recognised Corbett from wanted person circulations and passed this information to colleagues from Sheffield Central NHP.

Despite trying to evade police capture by changing appearance and location, PCSO Hart and PC Freddie Payne tracked Corbett down and handed him over to North Wales Police.

Corbett, along with another man, was sentenced on Monday 22 March for his role in the Post Office robbery in Anglesey in November 2017. He was jailed for 12 years.

Their lead investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Brian Kearney, said: “Zak Corbett was arrested and ultimately brought to justice due to the cooperation that we received from South Yorkshire Police and one of your exceptional PCSOs.

“The PCSO concerned identified the suspect and located him. He was then arrested by South Yorkshire officers. The assistance of South Yorkshire Police ensures that there is no hiding place for those who cause serious harm in our communities irrespective of where they seek to hide.”
