Ex-Sheffield Wednesday striker John Pearson is to lead football based sessions aimed at getting inactive people fit.

Sheffield Wednesday’s community programme and Sheffield United’s community foundation are looking to recruit around 16 participants to take part in the Steel City Fit Club, aimed at encouraging people to take part in low-impact, football-related fitness sessions at Hillsborough and Bramall Lane.

Former Owls frontman Pearson will lead the Hillsborough sessions.

Priced at £2, the sessions will start from Tuesday, October 27 and will be held in the Sheridan Suite at Hillsborough from 10am to noon every Tuesday for 12 weeks.

Sheffield City Trust, which runs leisure venues across Sheffield, has secured £40,000 funding from Sport England and Sporta to deliver four of the 12-week blocks over the next year.

A Sheffield Wednesday spokeswoman said: “As well as a fun and engaging the sessions will educate the participants on how to lead a healthy lifestyle and maintain their fitness upon completion of the course.”
