Eddie Howe, the Bournemouth manager, admits he is 'very excited about what David Brooks could be in the future' after watching the former Sheffield United youngster score his first Premier League goal last night '“Â and break a club record at Dean Court.

The 21-year-old former Blade became Bournemouth's youngest ever Premier League scorer when he fired home their opening goal in an eventual 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.Â

Brooks has impressed in the top flight after joining Howe's men from United in a Â£12m deal, and the Bournemouth boss said of the Wales international:Â 'He has outstanding technical qualities and I believe he is a goalscorer in waiting. He gets in good positions, his finishing is improving and that was a big moment for him.

'It was an excellent finish and a really good team move. I am really pleased he has carried on his form, he has started really well in his time with us and the potential of his performances are huge.

'He hasn't been overawed by the Premier League, he hasn't been fazed at all by some of the players he is playing with or against. He has just attacked it and done his best '“ I think that's a very special thing to do at such a young age.

Brooks, who joined United's academy after being released by Manchester City, played 33 times for Chris Wilder's side last season and was capped for the first time by Wales. He joined the Cherries in the summer, the Â£12m fee a record received by United.
