Ex-Mayor in line for award

A FORMER mayor of Barnsley has been shortlisted for a national award.

Coun Margaret Morgan - mayor from May 2006 to 2007 - is in the running for a national Mayor of the Year award.

The Wombwell councillor, who is currently Barnsley’s deputy mayor, was nominated by the Co-operative bank honour by colleagues and the charities she helped during her term of office.

Senior manager at the bank,David Dunn said: “Coun Morgan completed many civic engagements during her year of office and worked tirelessly in raising funds for coronary disease treatment at Barnsley Hospital.

“She was a great ambassador for Barnsley and was a very popular mayor bringing enthusiasm and a fresh approach to the role.”
