Former Rotherham MP Denis MacShane has appeared in court in London accused of making bogus expenses claims of nearly £13,000.

MacShane, aged 65, appeared at the Old Bailey accused of fraudulently claiming £12,900 for research and translation services between January 6, 2005, and January 15, 2008.

Mr Justice Sweeney told the ex-MP for Rotherham a trial date had been set for next May.

MacShane, of Westmoreland Terrace, central London, stood down as a Labour MP last November.
