BRIDE Sarah Newman did well to get a word in edgeways at her own wedding - with the guest list packed with chatty DJs from all over the country!

Sarah married former Hallam drivetime man Kam Kelly at Dore Parish Church - with best man John Harrison close at hand, better known as the station’s popular breakfast show host Big John.

The event was also something of a Real Radio reunion - friends in attendance included Simon Hirst, Hirsty from Capital FM Yorkshire’s breakfast show, as well as Choice FM breakfast news man Andre Morgan and Real Radio’s David Dixon.

Kam’s co-host Sally Bailey was also in the pews, while producers from the Capital and Heart network including Tim John, Cormac MacMahon, Tim Lichfield and Rhiddian Jones also rubbed shoulders with Colin Paterson from BBC Radio Wales.

Sarah, 31, a marketing assistant, met Kam, 37, in Sheffield but he now works for Capital FM in South Wales.

“It really was a big reunion - but at least all the DJs weren’t in competition with each other,” she said.

“Radio folk do tend to be a close-knit bunch - we just had to come back to Sheffield for the wedding as it’s my home town and we still have a house in Dore village.

“We had people from radio stations all over the country there because, by the nature of radio, people make friends and move around a lot from station to station.”

The pair met through Sarah’s cousin Lynne four years ago, who is David Dixon’s wife.

“We went on a date at Menzil’s and hit it off really quickly. Within a couple of months we were buying a house together,” she said.

Sarah said she had been a bit nervous about so many DJs all being in the same place at the same time.

“They are well known for mischievous behaviour, but at least I knew they’d have plenty to say when it was time for the speeches!” she added.

Other well known guests included Cleopatra singer Yonah Higgins, who is dating Sarah’s brother, world-famous rock climber Jerry Moffatt and former boxing world champion Johnny Nelson. The couple held their reception at Chatsworth House in Derbyshire and the couple are planning to honeymoon in Paris.
