Every day is a learning day for Barnsley defender

Defenders John Stones, Mason Holgate and Alfie Mawson have all moved onto the Premier League in recent years. Their development has seen young players join the ranks at Oakwell looking to follow in their footsteps.

The right-back is focused on getting better as a player. “Paul’s a good coach, a good manager and he’s helping me improve as a player,” said Yiadom, who joined from League Two side Barnet in the summer.

“I just need to keep listening to him and improving as a player.

“It was a big step up for me and personally it would have been hard for me to come in straight away and do massively well.

“I’m just learning as games go on and trying to improve. People have gone on from this club and you never know what can happen.”

Yiadom has stepped up into the first team after James Bree’s injury.

The pair will fight it out for the starting shirt once Bree is back fully fit and Yiadom hopes the added competition will help push him on.

He said: “He’s another good player and I got a chance to step in with his injury and I’m just trying to do well.

“I’ve been put in the team and I’m trying to do my best for the lads.

“Even though he’s young, he’s a great player and competition in the team makes everyone improve.”

Barnsley fans have raised over £4,000 for local charities Barnsley Hospice and Reds in the Community.

A whopping 40 supporters walked 24.5 miles to complete the 2016 Yorkshire Three Peaks Charity Challenge, taking on the three highest peaks - Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.

Elsewhere, the club are taking a hard stance on counterfeited merchandise.

A statement on the club website read: “For some time now, Barnsley Football Club have been concerned that its merchandise is being counterfeited and sold in the town centre and on websites.

“Recently, brand protection experts Back Four Limited, acting on behalf of Barnsley Football Club, conducted an exercise in conjunction with trading standards to identify Barnsley shops selling counterfeit products and had them removed. Legal action is likely to follow.”
