Estate’s future to be discussed

Residents are meeting to discuss the future of a stalled project to rebuild hundreds of crumbling homes on a Sheffield housing estate.

Some 400 flat-roofed homes in Arbourthorne are being bulldozed and redeveloped - but only half of the homes have been pulled down.

Residents say there is uncertainty about when Sheffield Council will be able to obtain funding for the rest of the demolitions and rebuilding work.

The council is waiting for tens of millions of pounds from the Government to complete the scheme, while residents are unhappy about waiting without knowing what is happening, said Winnie Smith, of Arbourthorne Tenants’ and Residents’ Association.

The organisation is holding the meeting at 6.30pm tonight, at the Social Centre, on East Bank Road, and anyone affected by the plans is invited.
