Equipment boost for Sheffield's football clubs

Sheffield junior football clubs are set to benefit from hundreds of pounds worth of equipment thanks to a tournament that is promoting the city's footballing heritage to the world.

The Youdan Trophy celebrates the oldest competition on the planet - the Football Challenge Cup presented by Thomas Youdan Esq. which was staged only once in 1867 – and brings some of the biggest clubs in the world to play in the city each summer.

Tournament organisers You-Are-The-Ref.com presented Warmsworth Lions, Hillsborough Pumas, Norton Woodseats JFC, Wickersley Athletic and Dronfield Ladies U-16s with balls, goals, bags and more.

Dean Mohareb, tournament director for the Youdan Trophy, said: “The Youdan Trophy is all about bringing the stars of the future to play in Sheffield. I’m hoping this kit donation will help nurture Sheffield’s own stars of tomorrow.”

Over 800 players competed at this summer’s Youdan Trophy in Sheffield. Clubs from Rosenborg to Everton, Seattle Sounders to FC Basel and Newcastle United to Royal Antwerp lined for the tournament which also included the city’s own Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday.
