Sheffield Council’s Streets Ahead team cleared rubbish from the park at 6am after hundreds of waste items – including used toilet roll and nitrious oxide canisters – were dumped as dozens of groups gathered to enjoy the warm weather in recent days.

Clare Anderson, who visited the park at 8am this morning (June 3), said there were “a lot of people there last night making a lot of noise and rubbish.”

Another person wrote on Facebook: “I walked through the park at around 10 last night and I was shocked at the numbers of people on the field.”

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson confirmed officers were in the area until after 10pm on Tuesday (2 June) as part of extra patrols in and around the park, and on Rustlings Road, following numerous reports of anti-social behaviour last weekend.

They said police received one report from a member of the public concerned about a group of people at the park. Officers spent time speaking that group, and others, but “no enforcement activity was required.”

Youth Workers will also be joining police in their patrols in the coming weeks as part of wider engagement work, the force confirmed.

Inspector Colette Fitzgibbons said: “Quite a few of the reported issues have centred on groups of teenagers, so I do have a plea to them – please think about your actions and what impact it could have on others. To parents, know where your children are and who they’re with.”
