Peak District fire finally put out after raging for seven days
A Peak District fire which burned for seven days has finally been put out following a ‘massive effort’ from Derbyshire and Manchester fire crews.

A moorland fire at Rakes Moss off the A628 Crowden, near Glossop, broke out on 23 April. An investigation is currently taking place to find out the cause of the fire.
Crews from across Derbyshire - supported by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, Peak Park Rangers, landowners United Utilities and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds - worked in “challenging conditions” to extinguish the blaze and prevent its spread to protect the ecosystem and wildlife in the area.

Hide AdA helicopter dropping water was also used to fight the flames. The moors were likened to a desert after being ravaged by the fire.
Crews working in the heat were provided with food and refreshments by volunteers from the Salvation Army.
