Hide AdWork began in early January but has been delayed due to issues with access to the site and the amount of silt in the canal, meaning the closure is now expected to remain in place until March 31.
The towpath is also closed while the work takes place, and the trust has apologised for the invonvenience caused by the essential repair job.
The former Hilton hotel overlooking the canal basin recently reopened as the Best Western Plus Quays Hotel.
