Business as usual despite chemical waste spillage in Sheffield suburb

It is business as usual for the residents and businesses in a Sheffield suburb despite the spill of a chemical waste in their neighbourhood that occurred last month.

The Royal Oak in Mosborough has been closed since the middle of October following the discovery of the spillage on the car park, which is now under probe.

The spillage has reportedly affected the house next door recently and a number of residents have been hospitalised over the incident.

A shop owner, who declined to be named, however said it was business as usual for them as they were not informed anything about the latest development.

"There was some chemical spillage a few weeks ago, but we have had no problem at all so far.

"As far as we are concerned, we have not heard anything, and no one has told us about anything," she said.

A worker at a fish and chips shop, which is three doors away from the pub, also confirmed that the spillage occurred about a fortnight ago, but there has been no update since.

"We knew there was some chemical spill two, three weeks ago, but that was it," she said.

The Star also spoke to a couple of residents, who were aware of the incident but it was nothing of concern.

The Environment Agency said they were investigating a pollution incident at a pub in Sheffield, in which a chemical solvent spilled onto the premises car park.

They said the pollutant has not posed any risk to nearby watercourses or drinking water, however the grounds of some neighbouring properties have been affected.
