Huge tailbacks had been reported outside tips in the city as people took advantage of the lockdown to tidy up their gardens or clear their household clutter.

Waiting times have reduced since opening hours were extended last month to seven days a week, from 9am-6pm – a change which will remain in place until the end of September.

Drivers have still had to wait up to 45 minutes this week to access certain centres, while at other times there have been no queues at those sites.

The latest waiting times are now being published online, and it seems the morning is the best time to visit.

At 10.30am yesterday, Wednesday, July 1, there were no queues reported online at four of the five centres and a wait of 15 minutes at the Shirecliffe tip.

By 1.20pm that afternoon, waiting times at the centres in Shirecliffe and on Beighton Road, Woodhouse, had increased to 45 minutes, though there was still no queue reported to get into the other sites.
