SHEFFIELD MP Meg Munn has welcomed the plans for a new University Technical College in the city – and called for work to ensure young women as well as men can benefit.
Traditionally, engineering and technology have been male-dominated.
But Sheffield Heeley Labour MP Ms Munn said: “The new University Technical College is a real opportunity for young people in Sheffield and the surrounding area.
“It’s also a perfect time to ensure that from the outset more young women are given the chance to pursue careers in science, engineering and technology.”
The new University Technical College will be one of just 18 being established around the country.
It is to be developed on a site off Sidney Street, in the Cultural Industries Quarter.
