The long-necked bird is understood to have been on the prowl in Intake this morning.

Doncaster Central Local Policing Team posted pictures of the bird on its Facebook page, writing: "Couldn't believe my eyes this morning, one running! 'ª#‎onerunning'¬."

It is not clear where and when the pictures were taken but the bird was understood to be on a morning stroll with its owner.

Colette Gaskell said: "My friend's dad is the owner and its a very much loved pet. It follows their dog everywhere."

It is also not clear what type of bird the animal is, although it looks like a rhea - a young type of emu like bird.

Several readers have suggested that the bird is owned by a man in Intake who regularly takes it for walks in the mornings.

In 2014, a large escaped bird, similar to an emu that caused ‘havoc’ on Doncaster’s roads, was caught by the RSPCA.

The young rhea bird, which was initially thought to be an emu, escaped was spotted running across Melton Road, High Melton.

RSPCA officers later caught the bird, which can reach speeds of up to 40mph.
